Text 19 Nov Tip #7: When things go wrong…

eBay is constantly evolving and occasionally a change will break FatFingers.com.

In fact this morning I noticed and fixed a problem searching on eBay.com.

If you ever spot Fat Fingers returning nonsense results, drop me an email at feedback@FatFingers.com and I will fix it as soon as I can.

Text 18 Nov Tip #6: Ignoring extra spaces - when and why?

Most of the time, it’s worth letting FatFingers.com to look for misspellings with an extra space in it.

For example, someone once told me they’d won an iPod for a quarter of the going price because Fat Fingers had found an ‘i pod’ on eBay.

But for some words this doesn’t work so well.  PlayStation is often spelled Play Station and a ‘bedside light’ can be a ‘bed side light’.

In these cases, use the ‘Ignore Extra Spaces’ option and these spelling variants will be ignored.

On the FatFingers.com website, click the ‘[Show Options]’ link and tick ‘Don’t search for extra spaces’.  Then press the Find button:

Ignore extra spaces option

On Fat Fingers for iPhone/iPod touch and for Android devices (free: search for ‘Fat Fingers’ on the App Store or Market) use the options screen:

Text 16 Nov Tip #4: Use category filtering

Use category filtering in eBay to home in on exactly the items you want.

For example, if you are looking for a flat-panel television, on FatFingers.com search for “Television”.  Single word searches gain the best results!

When the results are shown on eBay, use the “Categories” panel on left side of the page and click Televisions then Flat-Panel.

If you are using the Pro version of Fat Fingers for iPhone you can do the same using the “filter” button:

Next time you visit, just click on the word and it will search eBay for misspellings and typos of your item.

This is saved in your browser so there is no need for usernames or passwords.

You can setup the same searches for different countries.
